Are Ontario Career Colleges Eligible For OSAP?

Education is incredibly important for your future, but sometimes it can be challenging to save enough money to fund your educational programs. Many financial aid methods are available to Canadian citizens to help them support their education, including OSAP.

For those heading to a private career college, you may be wondering whether OSAP and other financial aid options are available to you. We’ve gathered all of the information necessary for you to understand OSAP and financial aid at a private career college below.

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)

OSAP, which stands for Ontario Student Assistance Program, is a financial aid program dedicated to Ontario residents looking to enter post-secondary education. The program offers grants, which you don’t need to pay back, and loans, which you pay back after completing your education.

OSAP helps you to pay for your tuition, books, and equipment you may need while studying, any fees your school requests, and living expenses for full-time students. It also pays for childcare, when applicable, for both full and part-time students.

The program is open to all Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and protected persons, though you do have to meet some criteria to be eligible. Criteria include meeting specific academic requirements and being a resident of Ontario, among others.

The amount you receive from the OSAP depends upon a few things, including your educational expenses, your course load (whether you’re part-time or full-time), your program hours, and your financial situation. You may be eligible for additional funding if you are an indigenous person, a youth in extended society care, or a person with a disability.

Ontario Career Colleges & OSAP

If you’re looking to study at a private career college, you might be wondering whether you will be eligible for OSAP. Fortunately, the answer is yes!

Private career colleges must apply for OSAP every year to ensure that any of their students wishing to use these funds may be eligible. Citi College applies to OSAP yearly and is proud to offer OSAP as a financial aid option in the 2022-23 academic year. We will continue applying for the program to ensure our students have a range of choices regarding financial aid.

3 Reasons Why It’s Never Too Late To Start A New Career

Deciding to change your career path can be a confusing time, especially if you have an established role that you once thought was right for you. Contrary to popular belief, starting a new career can also be an amazing opportunity to find your true passions in life. But where do you start?

Well, if you’re scratching your head about whether changing careers is a good idea, then you’ve come to the right place! At Citi College, we want to give you all the tools you’ll need to find the career you’ll love. This is why we’ve created this guide describing the benefits of changing careers in the hopes that you’ll feel empowered to take charge of your future!

Is It Too Late To Start A New Career?

Some people are hesitant to start a new career because they think it’s irresponsible, especially if you’re settled into an established role with excellent benefits, security and progression opportunities.

Truth be told, it can be daunting, and it may feel as if it’s not a feasible option if you have family obligations, bills to pay and not enough time on your hands to even consider it.

While this is the traditional view, Citi College is here to turn that theory completely on its head! It is never too late to start a new career because there’s no time limit on discovering your passions.

No matter how old you are or what background you come from, you can start a new career at any point in your life. Starting a new career is never a bad idea because it provides you with a fresh opportunity to evaluate your life.

Gaining additional qualifications can open your eyes to an endless amount of opportunities, with potentially more benefits and security than your previous roles have offered.

Citi College is a great place to arm yourself with the additional credentials that you may need to dip your toes into a new industry or specialization.

Below are our three reasons why it’s never too late to start a new career!

Pursuing Your Passion

Sometimes, we settle for careers out of convenience and benefits or maybe we just couldn’t think of a better alternative. While this may suit your current lifestyle, why not nurture your passions so you can experience similar benefits, but with more personal fulfillment.

Changing careers allows you to find your talents and make a difference with those talents, meaning that you can leave work every day feeling as if you’ve truly achieved something. This can also have significant positive impacts on your personal life, as fulfillment can help you build your self-esteem, confidence and overall happiness.

Taking On New Challenges

We don’t like to think of challenges as positive, but in our professional lives, they can provide new experiences and strong motivation to succeed.

Believe it or not, humans thrive when confronted with challenges because it’s an opportunity to flex their problem-solving skills, learn entirely new skills and expand our professional repertoire, which can increase the scope of workplace responsibilities.

Challenges are a chance to demonstrate your resilience and professionalism and there’s no greater challenge than starting a new career.

While challenges can be daunting, the payoff can make it entirely worth it!

Healthier Work-Life Balance And Environment

If you’re noticing that you’re struggling to fit all of your professional and personal obligations into the same 24 hour period, this might be a sign that your work-life balance is suffering.

Most of us struggle to strike the perfect work-life balance, but it’s important to review your choices if your work life is starting to have a detrimental effect on your mental and physical health. If this sounds like something you’re having trouble with, consider a career change!

Changing careers is a good time to find a role that suits your schedule and accommodates your personal circumstances. Why not look for a career opportunity with flexible working benefits, work on a seasonal basis, or perhaps have scheduled periods of postponed operation?

You may be able to find a career opportunity that provides an enriching experience while taking care of your mental and physical health.

Changing careers may also be a good opportunity if you’re currently experiencing a toxic working environment. With a career change, you may find an opportunity with more positive influences, better management, and a happier environment.

The Significance of Class Sizes In College

Class sizes can play a significant role in your overall success during college. As a general rule, when you are undertaking your college courses, it is preferential to have a smaller class as opposed to a larger one for multiple reasons.

The Benefits Of Small Class Sizes In College

Studies have shown that smaller classes in education lead to higher scores on assessments. Additionally, students in smaller classes have proven to be several months ahead in their learning compared to their academic peers in larger classes. These statistics prove true across all subjects and here are the reasons why.

One On One Assistance

In larger classes, a teacher’s time is stretched incredibly thin. Statistics have shown that an average Canadian college class contains around 50-60 students in the first two years, before halving in the third and fourth. Just think about how much time a single teacher can realistically spend on each student.

Assuming you have around 50 students in your class and attend each course for 3 hours a week, all of that time and more would be taken up by each student receiving only 5 minutes of one-on-one time. This means you are unlikely to get any personal assistance within class hours.

Even outside of class hours, needing half an hour of your teacher’s time once a month would mean that each week, an educator would spend twice the amount of time helping students as they would giving lectures. With small college class sizes, however, you can get that one-on-one assistance both within class hours and outside of it.

Class Participation/Interaction

The simple fact is that people are more uncomfortable speaking in front of larger crowds. If you have 50 other students staring at you every time you answer a question or offer an opinion, chances are you are less likely to speak up.

In smaller classes, you not only have fewer people watching you but, you’re more likely to build a sense of community with your peers. This leads to more engaged learning, open discussions and debates of opinions which help you to tackle each subject from a variety of angles you may not have thought of.

Timely & Useful Work Feedback

As previously mentioned, larger classes stretch teachers thin. With smaller classes, you are more likely to receive feedback on assignments quicker. Moreover, a teacher is more likely to recognize your work in a smaller group, allowing them to comment not only on the content but comparing it to your previous efforts.

If a piece you’ve submitted is reminiscent of the work you handed in for a previous assignment, or if you’ve made a huge improvement in referencing (for example), teachers with 50 students are much less likely to notice and comment on it, whereas teachers with 10-20 students almost certainly will.

Hands on Learning

With smaller classes, it is much easier to organize field trips or get everyone up and on their feet for a physical demonstration. This hands-on learning approach has been shown to keep students more engaged (especially for things like engineering or healthcare courses), as it is the unique experience that students are more likely to remember.

Small Class Sizes: A Proud Feature Of Citi College

Here at Citi College, we are proud to state that we implement small class sizes to ensure that students get the attention, help, and overall experience that they deserve. We even list it as one of the main reasons to join us, as we know that it helps to make good use of our industry-experienced instructors.

So contact us today and see how our small college class sizes can help you make the most out of your education.
